Well I learned how to knit and crochet when I was a young guy around 10 years old (1980) but I never really did anything with it other than waste a lot of yarn trying to learn stitches and techniques. I did manage to make a set of Christmas tree angels that my mom still to this day puts on her tree.
My hat making addiction started sometime around 1999 after I bought a crocheted hat from an American Eagle store in my local mall in Auburn, Alabama. It was a design very similar to my own personally branded Top Dawg Beanies. In fact I based my design from that hat. At first, for about a year, I simply enjoyed making hats for myself but then I discovered some crafty people on the internet making their own handmade hats and selling them on eBay and on a few personally owned craft business sites. This excited me tremendously. So I made a few hats and put them up on eBay and they all sold two days after I listed them. I became hooked and that was how I got started making and selling my hats. Back then I operated under several differen’t names on eBay and even sported around a few websites but I could never settle on a name for my business that I liked. Well eventually I discovered twitter and made a name up for myself in reference to a mad hatter. You may know me on that account as @madhatter7zero. I also came up with a cool name for my hat shop. I call it The Hat Pit and my hats are getting more famous every day. The rest is just history.
Well I gotta get back to my hat making now. Hope you enjoyed my little story. Be sure and follow me on my official twitter account @hatpit for all of my new item updates and hat shop news.

Here is a brand new design I created yesterday. I have been wanting to offer a beanie with a brim for awhile but just haven’t had a chance to get motivated and design one until yesterday. I designed this while I was sitting at the local and very small airport enjoying a beautiful day watching little airplanes take off and land.
This is my first urban hat design and I am really proud of it. It has a low profile brim and is perfect for a grab and go hat to throw on when your heading out to run errands or just beating the streets. It’s low brim style will give you a sleek profile and it’s overall shape will simply just make you look cool. This hat is crocheted with 2 strands of soft acrylic yarn to give it a bulky stitch look and it holds it’s shape very well. This is a hat that will last you for many years without a lot of upkeep. Although I designed this hat for men I think a lot of ladies will be grabbing these up for themselves as well.
This one is done in a new color combo called Riverbank. You can order it in this color or choose any solid color to customize your hat in a color you like. These are going for a steal at only $18.50 at The Hat Pit.
P.S. I am not ashamed of begging you to please share this post. A quick tweet would mean the world to me. Thanks!!!
All Top Dawg Beanies are now only $14.50 – – – a 12 dollar drop from my normal asking price of $26.50. These hats come in all of your favorite colors and would make a great gift for yourself and for the men in your life. They are super soft and comfortable to wear.
